From breakthroughs in the treatment of prostate cancer, to discoveries in Motor Neurone Disease, and Alzeihmer’s Disease, the University of Wollongong’s Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute is becoming one of Australia’s pre-eminent facilities in medical research, collaborating with world-renowned schools and similar institutes around the world in the development of treatment options and understanding disease progressions.

IHMRI’s focus is purposely broad and addresses health and medical issues that are pertinent throughout most of the developed world, especially in the context of ageing populations such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative diseases, mental health and cancer.

Planting the seeds of success

A product developed at University of Wollongong's Centre for Medical Radiation Physics will soon be increasing the life expectancy of men with prostate cancer around the world.
